The Art of Self-Care in Surviving Exams: How I Managed Academic Stress
Updated: Dec 14, 2024
As a third-year Radiologic Technology student, I have faced my fair share of overwhelming academic pressures, especially during exam season. Trying to recall a sheer volume of information in just a week can be exhausting, and I have often found myself on the brink of burnout.
To manage this, I discovered the Pomodoro technique, which, in turn, became a game-changer. By breaking my study sessions into focused intervals with scheduled breaks, I was able to reward myself for achieving short-term goals. Consequently, this approach made the workload more manageable and kept my stress levels in check.
It took me years of experience to realize that working productively is about creating balance and giving my brain the rest it deserves.
When exams are just around the corner,it is easy to succumb to the high expectations we set for ourselves. Nevertheless, through experience, I have learned that self-care is not an indulgence but a necessity. That is why consistency became my mantra.
I established a realistic study plan with shorter, dedicated study blocks and frequent breaks. Rather than pulling all-nighters, I broke down my tasks into small, manageable chunks. As a result, this strategy helped not only with retention but also with maintaining my mental well-being.
Significantly, the key is to work smart, not just hard, and to recognize when to step back and recharge. By focusing on our strengths and staying optimistic, we can navigate the pressures of exam season without letting them overwhelm us while keeping in mind that our well-being is just as important as our academic achievements.
To my fellow Radiologic Technology students, remember that we can always "think anode while aiming cephalad." As we reach greater heights, staying grounded, maintaining perspective, and caring for ourselves are essential.
In the end, balancing ambition with self-care has allowed me to thrive academically and personally, reminding me that success is more than just grades; it is about sustaining our energy, passion, and well-being.
