RTSS Engages with HAU SHS—BEd Career Month 2024
Updated: Dec 21, 2024
The Radiologic Technology Student Society (RTSS) participated in the Fiestang Kurso and Strand Bonanza, a two-day event organized as part of Career Month 2024 for Senior High School students at Holy Angel University (HAU). Held on October 10-11, 2024, the event was themed “Itaas ang Potensyal: Mangarap, Gawin, at Magtagumpay” and took place at the Geromin G. Nepomuceno grounds. This event, initiated by the HAU Basic Education Guidance Office, aimed to inspire students to explore different college programs offered by the university.
Various college organizations joined forces to set up vibrant booths uniquely showcasing their respective programs to help Senior High School students navigate their options for higher education. The RADTECH booth of the RTSS provided an engaging and welcoming atmosphere. Students visiting the RADTECH booth were treated to free candies and stickers, and a fun mini quiz bee about anatomy general knowledge.
RTSS officers began preparing their booth as early as 7:00 a.m. By 10:00 a.m., the first wave of Senior High School students arrived. Many showed strong interest in the Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology program, with inquiries ranging from tuition fees, curriculum details, and the officers’ experience of studying the program. A significant number of students were curious about potential health risks associated with the field, asking about common misconceptions related to radiation exposure, including its links to infertility, cancer, and general safety concerns.
With confidence and expertise, the RTSS officers—comprising both second- and third-year students—responded to questions with well-informed and precise explanations. They effectively dispelled common misconceptions, explaining that the Radiologic Technology program includes comprehensive courses on radiation safety, hazard awareness, quality control, and the proper use of radiation.
The event was overseen in two shifts, with second-year officers managing the first half, while third-year officers supervised the second half. The RTSS concluded its successful participation at lunchtime, leaving a positive impression on prospective students considering a future in radiologic technology. The event exemplified RTSS’s commitment to promoting awareness and understanding of their field while helping young students make informed choices about their educational paths.
